"Talk therapy," which a patient with a psychological disorder discusses it with a trained therapist, produces chemical changes in the brain. Thus, physicians will eventually be able to treat such patients as effectively through pharmacological intervention in the brain's neurochemistry as through the lengthy intermediary of "talk" methods.

上のargumentの前提がImprovements in a patient's behavior produced by "talk" therapy occur only through chemical changes in the brain's neurochemistry.
というものなので、"pharmacological intervention in the brain's neurochemistry" と"chemical changes in the brain"が言い換えだと思ったんですが違うんでしょうか？
でなければなぜ上の前提が成り立つのでしょうか？

というものなので、・・・　と貴方は質問中に書かれていますが、これでは「talk therapyによる患者の改善は脳内の化学変化によってのみ起こる」ということになりますが、元の英文はそこまでは言っていません。末葉は省きますが、元の英文は「talk therapyは脳内に化学変化を生じる」すなわち「talk therapyの結果脳内に化学変化が起きている」と言っているだけです。　

そしてこのことから「時間のかかるtalk therapyではなく、将来は薬を使って脳内に同じような学変化を起こして患者の改善をはかことができるだろう」と締めくくっています。
